Poetry

Poetry was my first love in the wide world of creative writing. I love language. I love its sounds, its rhythms, its forms. Reading and writing poetry resonates so deeply in my heart, it often transcends to what I can only call a spiritual practice. As such, I’ve often used the medium to explore metaphysical ideas such as grace or reverence—even after deconstructing from my Mormon upbringing, a journey that ultimately ended in agnostic atheism. Poetry is my personal brand of secular spirituality, a place where I allow myself to feel and express awe for the mysteries of life.

"Jesus Christ"

Written in blank verse, “Jesus Christ” explores ideas of death and rebirth from an agnostic/post-religious lens. This poem was published in Dialogue Journal in their Fall 2019 issue

"Nosebleed (A Mormon Pilgrimage)"

A free verse journey from California to Utah and back again, “Nosebleed (A Mormon Pilgrimage)” was written during a time of homesickness at the cusp of a great faith crisis. This poem was published in Dialogue Journal in their Winter 2016 issue.
